St. George and the…Grasshoppers!

Last Tuesday 23rd April, St. George’s Day was celebrated in style at Overbury Grasshoppers. Lots of the children and staff dressed in red and white and some even came dressed as knights and princesses

.

The children enjoyed lots of activities throughout the day. Everyone decorated a cake with white icing and red crosses (made from edible sugary laces!). After learning about the story of St. George and the dragon and about why a red rose is worn, from the internet, the older children concentrated to colour pictures of the brave knight and beautiful roses.

At group time we had two stories about dragons and talked again about the legends surrounding St. George’s Day and the children were really interested and enthusiastic and the level of recall of the details was amazing!

The children all took home cakes and colourings and their own England flags!
