It wasn't our intention when we set out but a recent walk gave us lots of opportunities to develop our maths skills.
We started off by counting the horses in the field, which wasn't easy as they were a long way away and they will move around!!
At the cricket pitch, the girls played in the autumn leaves while the boys looked at the equipment used on the wicket.
There were two rollers and the boys found that one wheel on the motorised roller was bigger than both boys, but they were bigger than the front roller!
This walk was a good example of learning through play and exploration, it is important to give the children language and skills to work things out for themselves. http://www.early-years.org/parents/docs/maths-through-play.pdf
