Pottery visit

The children went to visit the local pottery to learn about the properties of clay and how to make patterns.

The children arrived at the pottery, Toff the potter, talked to them about clay and how you can  make things from it.

He showed the children how to shape the clay.

He talked to the children about the types of things you could make and how the clay goes hard after it has been fired in the Kiln. It was amazing all the different things you can make and all the patterns that can be made using things like pens, paintbrush handles and sticks.

The children enjoyed their visit and couldn't wait to come back to nursery to have a practice with their own clay.

The children used all the knowledge they had learned to help them make their own pots, using a variety of resources to make patterns and marks.
