Mushroom hunting

The children have been on a discovery walk searching for mushrooms and fungi.

The children talked about mushrooms and how we shouldn't pick anything from the wild because we don't know if it could cause us harm. The children had a look at the mushroom book to see the sorts of things they might find and the best places to look.

Their first stop was a tree where a beautiful mushroom was growing.

The children talked about why it might grow on a tree and asked lots of questions.

They then found some growing in the grass

We looked at them closely but we didn't touch them.  We are going to try and grow some mushrooms that we can try from a mushroom kit at nursery.
