Growing and baking bread

The children have been very busy this week learning about growing, harvesting and baking.

The combine was working in the field near the nursery so we took the children to watch the barley being harvested.

The children stood watching, we had to cover our eyes when it came closer as it was so dusty. We talked about other crops that can be harvested and the children decided they would like to make some bread.

When we got back to nursery we found a recipe for bread and carefully measured out the ingredients.

We then placed all the ingredients into the bread maker and programmed it to make lovely fresh bread.

We produced a lovely loaf of bread ready for our tea.

At Grasshoppers we believe it is very important for children to understand the processes involved in growing and producing food, children gain an appreciation of where their food comes from. For more information from the sustainable food trust click here
