The children waited until all of their friends had arrived at nursery, then wrapped up in appropriate outdoor clothes they were able to really enjoy the snow.

While some children took time

to explore the snow closely

and the changes it made

to their familiar toys.

But not surprisingly the favourite occupation in the snow was making snowballs and Jenny and Sharron were the favourite targets!! Then we all went inside and had toast and warm milk for snack to thaw us out!!

The session will run on Monday 13th February, between 08.30 and 12 o’clock, and cost just £15. All the ingredients and equipment needed will be supplied.

Unregistered children are welcome, and places are still available. But please be quick as places are limited.

To celebrate the year of the dragon at nursery the children had made dragon masks and enjoyed messy play activities such as coloured rice play.

With the school children they enjoyed cutting and colouring activities  and returned to nursery very proud of their creations and full of stories from their morning out.

Eager to contend with what that had seen at  school , the same day the older nursery children carefully constructed Christingles for the Sunday Family service at St. Faith’s Church, Overbury to add to those made at school!

The children have been fascinated by the diggers and tractors working on drainage ditches near the Brake Pool.

We have been  carefully monitoring the various stages of construction;

Just before Christmas we had a look around the nursery and, after putting our heads together, decided what play and educational items we’d like to get this year.

Are you able to help us by providing any of the following please?

 
1. A wooden role playing kitchen;
2. Role playing food items for it;
3. Large (childrens) spades for our digging pit;
4. A wooden farmyard;
5. A wooden dolls house;
6. Water toys;
7. Wooden ‘ABC’ stencils.

If you have any of these in a very good, or new, condition that you or your children no longer need then please contact Sharron at the nursery (01386 725 750) and let her know. We’d be very grateful for the donation, and the toys would be hugely appreciated by the children.

So we were all ready and waiting the following week. The children were really excited and most of them very confidently went up to get their presents and tell him what else they wanted him to bring them.

Then they all sat down to look at the books he had given them, all very pleased with their books, meanwhile parents enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies.

Thanks to all those who were able to bring their children to share in activities on days when they don’t usually attend.

Those not usually attending on a Wednesday were invited and it was lovely to have lots of parents sharing in the children’s fun.

We played pass the parcel, some children needed help to discover what was beneath their layer (everyone won a Christmas sticker) while others were well aware of the rules, showing their parents how independent they are at nursery.

Lots of very enthusiastic dancing and chasing of bubbles was then followed by Christmas goodies. Mince pies and mulled wine for the parents, milk and biscuits for the children.

In the run up to Christmas we had been practising a number of songs (some with our jingly accompaniment!) to perform at the Court for parents, villagers and the school children.

The hats the children made really added to the aahh factor on performance day, but the making of  these props had  provided  lots of learning opportunities. The older nursery children experimented mixing the three prime colours to make brown to paint Christmas pudding hats, and honed fine motor skills, cutting out holly berries to decorate them and the youngest children just enjoyed glitter and glue to make  their star hats.

Overbury First School came to nursery to sing their carols to us before setting off around the village, their final destination the Court where we were to join them.

Could you identify a footpath sign aged just 2 or 3? Grasshoppers know what they mean and enjoying following the markers in their explorations.

We had found this sign some time ago, but only recently followed the arrow right over to

the other side of the field to see where it would lead us.

It was a long a walk for little legs so we had a rest under a nearby tree, then when we were passed by a group of walkers we were able to point out the way, which they really appreciated!

We looked for different sorts of signs under our resting point, clues as to what sort of tree it was.

As well as  leaves we found acorns and an oak apple, so worked out it was an oak tree.

We then followed the footpath back the way we came, some with renewed energy, others taking it a bit more slowly!!
