As part of our commitment to the event, we’ll be conducting tours of the Farm by trailer to give adults and kids alike an insight into the management of the farm. This event takes in much more of the Farms’ work than we cover in our Lambing Live days, and it’s well worth coming to even if you visited us in April.

The tours are free of charge, but places must be pre-booked by calling the Estate Office on 01386 725 111.

The trailers will leave from The Close, opposite the Village Hall, in the centre of Overbury, and will take in various aspects of the farm and the stunning views. There will an opportunity to talk about the woodland and parkland management, wildlife and the sheep flock.

This year, visitors will be able to take part in a pollinator survey, results from which will be collated nationally to give a clear picture of how well these vital insects are doing.

We expect that the tour will take approximately 1h 30mins. Booking is essential (and this is always incredibly popular so book early).

Carolyn and her son Ryan took the sessions and started with a gentle warm up.

Then it was time to get down to the serious business of… football. Two teams were quickly organised, and the game started well, with a quick first goal from the ‘reds’…

…which may have been because the opposition were too busy posing for the camera!

There was a lot of nifty footwork.

After football, Carolyn organised a sack race, egg and spoon races and then moved into the Village Hall to carry on when rain started later in the afternoon.

Carolyn’s greatest love with the children is physical development

Suzanne, Ruth and Christine rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in with the children, who all had a great time talking about and measuring the ingredients. They each took 6 hot cross buns home with them to share with their lucky families.

The children learned the processes involved – mixing, measuring, weighing and kneading, and it was lovely to see them sitting down to lunch together to discuss the morning’s work!

In between proofing they enjoyed an Easter egg hunt and other outdoor games.

We’re always interested in getting feedback, or suggestions on what your children might like to do. We can’t promise to be able to fit everything in, but we’ll certainly listen to your ideas!

Our next session is a mini Sports Day on Thursday the 15th April. We’ve had a lot of bookings already for this, so you’ll have to be quick, but we can still fit a few more in. More details to follow, so please keep your eye on this space.

Our next Holiday Club event will be another Baking Day on Monday 2nd April.

The first day was very successful, and we’re looking forward to seeing even more children next week.

Suzanne Marler will be leading the session again, and this time we’ll be making Hot Cross Buns.

Spaces are limited, but we can still squeeze another two or three children in tomorrow.

Places are suitable for 5 - 10 year olds and cost £10 per child per morning session (8.30 - 12.00) or £15 per child per day (until 3.30). Please make sure you book with Sharron (01386 725 755) or Howard (01386 725 119) as soon as possible.

The children waited until all of their friends had arrived at nursery, then wrapped up in appropriate outdoor clothes they were able to really enjoy the snow.

While some children took time

to explore the snow closely

and the changes it made

to their familiar toys.

But not surprisingly the favourite occupation in the snow was making snowballs and Jenny and Sharron were the favourite targets!! Then we all went inside and had toast and warm milk for snack to thaw us out!!

We’re pleased to be offering a taster session on bread making this half term with Suzanne Marler. Children between the ages of 5 and 10 can join us and get ‘hands on’ with bread making.

The session will run on Monday 13th February, between 08.30 and 12 o’clock, and cost just £15. All the ingredients and equipment needed will be supplied.

Unregistered children are welcome, and places are still available. But please be quick as places are limited.

To celebrate the year of the dragon at nursery the children had made dragon masks and enjoyed messy play activities such as coloured rice play.

With the school children they enjoyed cutting and colouring activities  and returned to nursery very proud of their creations and full of stories from their morning out.

Eager to contend with what that had seen at  school , the same day the older nursery children carefully constructed Christingles for the Sunday Family service at St. Faith’s Church, Overbury to add to those made at school!

The children have been fascinated by the diggers and tractors working on drainage ditches near the Brake Pool.

Just before Christmas we had a look around the nursery and, after putting our heads together, decided what play and educational items we’d like to get this year.

Are you able to help us by providing any of the following please?

 
1. A wooden role playing kitchen;
2. Role playing food items for it;
3. Large (childrens) spades for our digging pit;
4. A wooden farmyard;
5. A wooden dolls house;
6. Water toys;
7. Wooden ‘ABC’ stencils.

If you have any of these in a very good, or new, condition that you or your children no longer need then please contact Sharron at the nursery (01386 725 750) and let her know. We’d be very grateful for the donation, and the toys would be hugely appreciated by the children.
