Our very own 'lambing live'

On Tuesday 8th April, the week before Overbury Farm's official 'Lambing Live Event', (www.overburyfarms.co.uk/events/lambingday2014/)the nursery children of all ages (we, coincidentally took both our youngest and our oldest child that day!) enjoyed a tractor and trailer ride up to the lambing sheds.

The children really enjoyed their ride in the trailer, especially the bumpy bits, going over the cattle grids!

They enjoyed a good look around before being given the opportunity to cuddle or feed a lamb.

They were told about the orphan lambs they held and fed (some ewes give birth to 3 lambs and can only look after 2). Then we were lucky enough to see how they try to get a ewe with only one lamb to adopt one. The orphan is put into a bucket with the newly born single lambs they both smell the same and the ewe then accepts the orphan as her own! (the success rate is apparently very high).

After helping with the mucking out,on or way back to nursery we went to see the sheep out in the fields.

Some of the sheep and lambs are in a field close to nursery so are now a regular attraction on our regular walks!
