The older children were invited to explore an orchard in the village, with paths cut through cow parley as tall as them!
First the owner showed the children the way around...
and then they were free to explore on their own!
They had so much fun, running around the maze of paths and rolling down a grassy bank.
They have been learning to identify some of the wildflowers in the area, so knew all about the daisies, buttercups and cow parsley they were running through. We find lots of fun resources for learning about nature on the woodland trust site http://www.naturedetectives.org.uk
The children worked up quite a thirst exploring, so when we managed to get them all back in one place, they enjoyed some refreshing iced elderflower cordial (something new of most of them!)
Several of Overbury's gardens will be open to explore at the Street Market in July http://www.overbury.org/streetmarket/. If you half as much fun as the children did exploring this orchard and garden, you should have a good day out!!
