The children have been celebrating food this week during British food fortnight with a visit from Jack and Tom, the chefs at the Yew tree pub in Conderton. 

The children love this time of year when they can visit the kitchen gardens and pick fresh fruit and vegetables.

I would like to introduce Kiele who runs Fantasically Fresh in Beckford. Kiele and her team are producing good quality food using locally sourced ingredients. We are very lucky at Grasshoppers to be  working with Kiele to ensure the children receive a variety of good quality, nutritious and tasty meals whilst they are at nursery.

The children have been taking part in the RHS big soup share. They have been harvesting vegetables and making delicious soup to share with their friends. Some of the children took some home to share with their parents.

The children have been celebrating British food fortnight for the past couple of weeks and we finished our celebrations by making Hulk soup along side the RHS soup share event. 

Today the children have been helping to cut up the last of the apples that we collected. Some are going in the freezer, the rest have gone into an apple crumble for snack.

Over the past few months we have been working with the Royal Horticultural Society to improve our understanding of growing food with the children. We entered their competition and we are happy to say we have been awarded level 3. We have submitted our entry for level 4 and await the results.

The children were tasked with finding ingredients from our trips out and about to make soup with. 

The children have been busy this week collecting vegetables and fruit ready for their baking session.

The children have been out and about meeting Jake the farmer, Robert the head gardener and Billy the chef to find out about where food comes from and how we make the things we like to eat. British food fortnight runs from 23rd September to the 8th October click here for more details
