Autumn / Winter 5 week rolling menu

The weekly menu is also displayed on the noticeboard outside the nursery so that you can easily see what your child will be enjoying each day.

Our meals are freshly prepared on site by our cook Bonnie, and are carefully planned to provide a balanced, nutritious diet that supports children’s growth, development, and wellbeing.

In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) nutritional guidance, our menus follow national recommendations for early years settings. This means we provide a wide variety of foods from all the main food groups, including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy or suitable alternatives, and protein-rich foods such as beans, lentils, eggs, fish, and lean meats. We aim to limit foods that are high in sugar or salt and encourage children to develop healthy eating habits from an early age. Drinking water is always available throughout the day, and we support children to enjoy a balanced range of flavours and textures.

Mealtimes at Overbury Grasshoppers are also an important part of children’s learning and social development. Staff sit with the children, encouraging conversation, independence, and positive attitudes towards food. Children are gently encouraged to try new foods while respecting their individual preferences and appetites.

On days when we celebrate cultural events or festivals, the menu will be adapted to reflect and celebrate those occasions. This allows children to experience foods from different cultures and traditions, helping them learn about the diverse world around them while enjoying special meals together.

At Overbury Grasshoppers, we take children’s allergies very seriously and work closely with parents and health professionals to ensure every child’s safety. Before starting nursery, we gather detailed information about any allergies, intolerances, or dietary needs and create individual care plans where needed. All staff are trained to recognise and respond to allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, and allergy information is clearly shared with everyone involved in food preparation and mealtimes.

We take great care to prevent cross-contamination, prepare food safely, and monitor children closely during meals to ensure they remain healthy and protected. Bonnie, Jayne and the nursery team work together to ensure that all dietary requirements are met while still providing enjoyable, nutritious meals for every child.

Below are some photos of our freshly cooked meals, all prepared on site for the children to enjoy (including Jayne/Bonnie's famous very veggie tomato sauce!)
