Visit to the lambs

This morning, the whole nursery climbed back aboard the tractor trailer and set off to visit Farmer Jake at Park Farm as part of our new topic on farm animals. The journey up the hill was very bumpy, which made it all the more exciting!

When we arrived, we were incredibly lucky to see newborn lambs that had arrived just 10 minutes before we got there. Farmer Jake explained how sheep have scans to check how many lambs they are expecting, and he told us how many some of the sheep had safely delivered. Since last week there have already been over 600 lambs born! We noticed that some sheep were already out in the fields, while others were comfortably settled in pens, waiting for their lambs to be born.

Farmer Jake reminded us to use quiet voices so we didn’t disturb the animals, and we carefully tiptoed through the pens. In another pen, we met some older lambs and had the wonderful opportunity to gently stroke them. We loved how soft and fluffy they felt!

We also spotted some children and Laura wearing bright yellow wellies. Farmer Jake told us about the Farm Safety Foundation, also known as the ‘Yellow Wellies’ campaign, which helps raise awareness of farmers’ mental health.

We had a fantastic visit and can’t wait to share all about it at pick-up time!
