Fireworks and Bonfire Night

This week we have been reading the story 'The Bonfire Dance' by Christopher Stokes and taking part in lots of fun firework themed activities.

Today, the children had the exciting experience of helping to set up a real bonfire in the garden. They started by scrunching up newspaper and placing it in the fire bowl. Once everything was ready, they sat safely behind the barrier as Jayne carefully added the kindling and lit the fire.

While watching the flames, the children noticed and talked about the bright colours dancing in the fire. They also discussed important safety tips for being around bonfires, learning how to stay safe while still having fun.

As a special treat, Jayne toasted marshmallows for the children to hold on skewers. Before taking a bite, they blew on the marshmallows—just like the Big Bad Wolf!—to make sure they were cool enough to eat. Everyone loved enjoying their warm, gooey marshmallows and the fun experience of a safe, supervised bonfire.
